Leonid Gozman biography (Leonid Gosman biography):
From birth to graduation from the Psychology Department of Moscow State University, nothing interesting happened in the politician’s biography: childhood, school, university.
After graduation, his working life began there, at the Department of Social Psychology, as a “specialist in political psychology and problems of interpersonal relations”.
After defending his doctoral dissertation on the psychology of emotional relations, Leonid Gozman became head of the political psychology lab at Moscow State University.
The year 1989 was marked in Gozman’s fate by the presidency of the newly created Association of Psychological Practitioners.
After becoming a member of the “Karabakh” committee and joining the “Moscow Tribune” club, the future politician begins to work actively in public organizations.
Leonid Gozman Political life (Leonid Gosman Political life):
After meeting Yegor Gaidar, who held a high position in the government, he became his adviser and entered Russian politics for the first time.
After Gaidar’s resignation, Gozman returned to academia and accepted an offer to teach at Pennsylvania’s Dickenson College (Carlisle).
March 1993 was a turning point in his career, bringing him back to mainstream Russian politics. Having accepted the offer of Anatoly Chubais to help him assess the political situation on the eve of the parliamentary congress, Gozman definitively returns to his homeland and becomes a member of the “Democratic Choice” party.
At that time, he takes part as a sociologist in election events; becomes secretary of the party’s federal political council; and runs (unsuccessfully) for a deputy’s seat in the DVR-OD bloc.
Highlights:
Appointed adviser to the head of the presidential administration.
He was appointed first deputy head of the government of A. Chubais (and held this position until 1998).
1999 marked a new stage in his activities – Leonid became Chubais’s adviser and the public relations representative of the RAO UES headed by him. Gozman spent the next seven years on the company’s management board and was a member of the directors of the company’s regional branches.
